Chapter 7
Personal Reflection
Chapter 7 is about the relationship between Gatsby, Tom, and Daisy. Tom finds out about the affair between Gatsby and Daisy. He also later discovers how Myrtle was run over by Gatsby.

Research Element
- Truculent: eager or quick and ready to fight
- "Only the negro and I were near enough to hear what he said, but the policeman caught something in the tone and looked over with truculent eyes" (Pg 140).
- Deranged: mad;insane
- "Then new arrivals deranged the line, and Jordan and I were pushed suddenly inside" (Pg 138).
- Ashheaps: a pile or mound of ashes written in the figurative way that things should be done secretly
- "The young Greek, Michaelis, who ran the coffee joint beside the ashheaps was the principal witness at the inquest" (Pg 136).
Literary Analysis
This chart represents the conflicts and the levels of tension between Gatsby and Tom within chapter 7. Both seem to be at battle with each other fighting for Daisy. Included are the degrees of tension, and quotes to back up the reasoning for why they are at the degree. Tom is represented in purple and Gatsby in the mint green.
